Notch 8 and Chef Matt Annand Triumph at 2025 Taste of the Lakes, Winning People’s Choice and Best Entree Awards

Brainerd, MN – April 8 – Notch 8 and Executive Chef Matt Annand, leading the culinary team at both Notch 8 and Clocktower Hospitality, have been recognized for their outstanding culinary talent, winning the coveted People’s Choice Award and Best Entree Award at the 2025 Taste of the Lakes event.

The prestigious event, held on Thursday, March 20th at the Northern Pacific Center Exchange Building, showcased the finest culinary talents in the Brainerd Lakes Area. With special guest judges and emcees Julie Nelson and Belinda Jensen from KARE-11, the event drew a large crowd eager to sample the region’s best flavors.

Chef Matt Annand and his team impressed attendees with their innovative and delectable entree, Spanish saffron Arborio rice with smoked brisket, garlic, shrimp, mussels, and little neck clams – earning them the Best Entree Award, while also capturing the hearts (and palates) of the crowd, securing the esteemed People’s Choice Award.

“We are incredibly honored to receive these awards,” said Chef Matt Annand. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the entire Notch 8 and Clocktower Hospitality team. We strive to create memorable dining experiences, and we are thrilled that our efforts resonated with both the judges and the attendees.”

The 2025 Taste of the Lakes event, hosted by the Brainerd Family YMCA, continued its three-decade-long tradition, raising funds to support mentoring programs and youth enrichment opportunities in the Lakes Area, carrying on the mission of Kinship Partners.

The evening featured a chef competition, wine, beer, and spirit tastings, a live auction, and raffle opportunities. Attendees enjoyed an array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, with the awards ceremony highlighting the exceptional talents of local chefs.

“We are proud to have Chef Matt Annand and the Notch 8 team as part of the Northern Pacific Center family,” said Mike Higgins, Northern Pacific Center CEO. “Their culinary expertise and commitment to excellence are a valuable asset to our venue and the community. These awards are well-deserved.”
